Splendid Bronze 19th Century French Empire Inkstand Decorated with Putti

A wonderful 19th Century inkwell in a French Empire style.

It is fashioned from bronze and features an urn design with hinged lid and rams head handles and floral and ribbon swags in the centre of a dish that is decorated with putti playing instruments, a quiver of arrows with a bow (for Cupid?) and a torch with laurel wreath to represent victory.

It is an outstanding item, very well made and heavy. There is a porcelain ink pot inside the lid, which appears to be a later replacement.

It measures approx. 14.5cm high and 17.5cm across plate. The inkwell is fixed to the stand from base.

In very fine condition - no splits or dings, some polish residue.
